Find Your Nest: Ivy Neighborhoods
With many parts of the Ivy area located just a few miles west of Charlottesville, the convenience and beauty of Ivy homes and neighborhoods is tough to beat. The small town of Ivy, just 7 miles west of Charlottesville on Route 250, includes the Ivy Store, several shops and offices, a market, and the ever-popular Duner’s Restaurant. The Ivy area contains a mix of historic homes, farms and estates, and established neighborhoods. With a few exceptions, you won’t find many new developments here. Newer neighborhoods in Ivy are typically more rural developments with higher-end homes. However, many established Ivy neighborhoods - like Farmington, Ednam, and Ivy Farms - carry high price tags also. A typical Ivy neighborhood features homes with varying architectural styles built in the 1920s to 1980s with mature shade trees and private home sites. Ivy is definitely not a place where you’ll find any tract home subdivisions. Another area of Western Albemarle, Free Union, is situated just off of Ivy’s northern edge. Free Union, known for its beautiful, rolling hills and spectacular mountain views, features many large farms and homes on acre-plus sites. Popular Ivy and Free Union destinations include the Foxfield Races and the Boar’s Head Inn. If you are looking for a classic neighborhood, a home with some privacy, and want to be just a few minutes from Charlottesville (and you can stomach the slightly higher price tag), the Ivy area may be for you.
