Located steps from the Charlottesville City line, the Barracks Area is a small pocket consisting mainly of established neighborhoods and condominium communities. The most densely populated section of the Barracks area lies just outside the Route 250 Bypass and steps from the enormously popular Barracks Road Shopping Center. Residents of these neighborhoods enjoy easy access to plentiful shopping and dining options and are just minutes from UVA’s main grounds, business, and law schools. Most housing in the Barracks area is located in established neighborhoods with mature trees and homes built mainly in the 1940s to 1980s. There is the occasional in-fill neighborhood – usually consisting of town homes or condominiums. The Barracks area’s priciest neighborhood, Colthurst Farm, features single family homes on large lots and backs up to Farmington Country Club. Barracks is a popular choice for UVA professors, graduate students (law, business, and medical), or anyone looking to live close to the city…but with lower county taxes.
